No two plants run the same process. The chemicals, temperatures, flow rates, and floor space all vary, so the tank or stack that fits one operation rarely fits the next. That’s why most industrial equipment isn’t bought off a shelf. It’s built to a drawing.
Moon Fabricating has been building to customer drawings in Kokomo, Indiana since 1923. We fabricate tanks, stacks, ductwork, and process equipment to your exact specifications, and we can line and cure them in the same shop before they ever ship.
What we fabricate
Tanks and process vessels. Process tanks, pickling tanks, chemical and acid processing tanks, and custom process vessels, plus storage tanks for acids and bulk materials. Each is built in the size and configuration your process needs.
Stacks, silos, and chutes. Emissions and exhaust stacks built to your design, with breachings, platforms, and ladders available. We also build steel silos, chutes, and furnace components.
Ductwork. Round, rectangular, or custom transitions for emission systems, including saddles, refractory clips, and expansion joints.
Lined equipment. Anything we fabricate can be lined in-house with rubber, abrasion-resistant, or fiberglass (FRP) linings, or specialty coatings. Linings are cured under pressure in our 12-foot by 40-foot steam vulcanizer.
Materials and shop capabilities
We work in carbon steel, stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, and specialty alloys, so the material can match the job rather than the other way around.
Our 60,000-square-foot Kokomo facility is set up for heavy industrial work:
• Overhead cranes rated to 60,000 pounds
• Plate rolling
• Automated submerged arc welding
• CNC plasma burning
• A 12-foot by 40-foot steam vulcanizer for curing linings
Welding is done by certified welders to applicable AWS, ASME, and API standards, along with any customer-specific quality requirements.
How a custom project runs
A dedicated project manager guides each job from first drawing review to final inspection.
- Drawing review. Our estimating staff reviews your drawings in AutoCAD to confirm they meet specification.
- Pre-fabrication review. Before any steel is cut, we check nozzle placement, lining access, weld profiles, dimensions, and whether the materials and lining suit your chemicals and operating temperature.
- Material verification. Incoming material is verified against spec when it arrives.
- Fabrication. We build from approved drawings and written procedures, with inspections at fit-up, welding, and assembly.
- Lining and coating. If your equipment needs corrosion protection, it’s prepped, lined, and cured in the same shop.
- Testing and final inspection. Depending on the job, that can include pressure testing, radiographic or ultrasonic weld testing, holiday and spark testing on linings, hardness testing, and coating-thickness checks.
- Delivery and installation. Our field crews can install on site, and we keep inspection records for traceability.

Frequently asked questions
Carbon steel, stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, and specialty alloys.
Yes. Moon fabricates and lines in the same Kokomo shop, applying rubber, abrasion-resistant, fiberglass (FRP), and specialty coating systems, and curing linings in a 12-foot by 40-foot steam vulcanizer.
Certified welders work to applicable AWS, ASME, and API standards, plus any customer-specific quality requirements.
Depending on the job: pressure testing, radiographic and ultrasonic weld testing, holiday and spark testing on linings, hardness testing, coating-thickness checks, and dimensional and visual inspection.
Yes. Moon’s field service crews handle installation, inspection, repair, replacement, and rubber relining at the customer’s facility.
